This is our first Safeguarding Newsletter which as a safeguarding committee we are very proud of. We are delighted with the commitment of our people and together with a spirit of prayer, we bring safeguarding home to our parish committees.
We have 120 parishes in the Archdiocese. This past year we have touched upon most parishes in different ways, some have done very well, others have done very little but we pull our safeguarding family together, nonetheless.
Child Safeguarding Newsletter
Our people who have been trained are expected to go and train those in our parishes, to become safeguarding missionaries in order that our society and churches become places of safety for our children. As God is represented in a child, let us embrace the child with respect, dignity, and hope, so that they grow in truth and share their gifts with others.
April Workshops
We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who attended our workshops in April 2023. There were two workshops at the Cathedral, with 87 people in attendance. Additionally, a total of 54 participants have been vetted
Safeguarding Sunday July 30th 2023
Our Annual Safeguarding Sunday has been initiated by the Archdiocese of Johannesburg. It is the cornerstone of our safeguarding project. It is a unique Sunday in the church of Southern Africa as it is the only Sunday marked to formally celebrate child safeguarding in our church. It is an opportunity to pray with our children and celebrate their youthfulness as a gift of God andbringing safeguarding home. This day enables us to form a safeguarding family in the archdiocese where His Grace the Archbishop, priests, deacons, and the people of God unite against
violence and abuse. Our intention is also to enable a platform where we can invite society to become a place of safety for all.
