From the Catholic Archdiocese of Johannesburg:
As the National State of Disaster has now ended, I hereby lift the general dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, effective PALM SUNDAY 10th April 2022. The Obligation for the Catholic faithful to be present and participate in Mass and Holy Days is hereby restored. (1983 CIC canon. 1247) as of that date.
On Good Friday’s general veneration of the Cross, the people of God are invited to venerate the Cross by BOWING/GENUFLECTING BEFORE THE CROSS, rather than kissing or touching the Cross. If there is Holy Water in the fonts at the entrances to the church, the people of God are to sanitize their hand, BEFORE dipping into the water.
MASKS ARE TO BE WORN AT ALL TIMES DURING MASS, AND HOLY COMMUNION IS TO RECEIVED ON THE HAND, NOT ON THE TONGUE, AND THERE IS TO BE NO SHARING OF THE CHALICE.
